Whether it’s because of lockdown, parental responsibilities, or just the busyness of life, it isn’t always possible to leave the house for a date night. Luckily, date nights at home can be even more intimate, romantic and fun. At home, you have the freedom to do whatever you want! I’ve put together the ultimate list of creative at-home date night ideas.
I’d suggest removing distractions as far as possible. Declare it a technology free evening and unplug! I’ve found that physically turning off phones is the only way to ensure that this happens. This means you’ll be able to focus on each other. If you don’t take this step, you might even find yourselves checking your phones and responding to alerts without even realizing that you’re doing it!

1. HAVE A GAMES NIGHT… WITH A TWIST
Games Nights are a classic and creative stay at home date night idea. There are endless options of amazing games for couples. Some of our favorites are bananagrams, dobble, and backgammon.
However, our ultimate favorite is the humble checkers… with a few critical adjustments.
We’ve labelled each set of counters from 1-12 (writing the number underneath so it stays hidden).
We then made a Menu Board of Prizes– anything at all that we thought would be fun or interesting. Some things are funny (perform a song for the other person), some highly coveted (give a massage), and some are a little more work (make dinner for the other person). It can be anything so let your imaginations run wild.
Each time we play, we mix the numbers up, put the counters out and play the game as normal. At the end, the winner’s remaining counters can then be claimed from the losing opponent.
You never know what you’ve won until he very end when you flip the counters over, see the numbers that are left in play, and consult the Prize Board.
We found that this spiced the game up and made it super fun. The hard part is remembering to redeem the prizes!
2. COOK A MEAL AND GET DRESSED UP
We think nothing of getting all dressed up to head out, so why not get dressed up for eating in? Pick a stunning dress and get dressed separately to create suspense and excitement for your evening.
Take your time over the meal like you would at a fancy restaurant. Have coffees at the table at the end- stretch your meal out, chat, and enjoy each other’s company.
3. GET A TAKEAWAY THREE COURSE MEAL
We normally don’t order starters or dessert from a takeaway, but if someone else is doing the cooking, why not make the most of it with a three course meal?
My favorite takeaway dessert is the Turkish baklava, but lots of takeaways have surprising dessert choices. And if you’re really stuck, there’s always the battered mars bar…
4. HAVE A DESSERT PARTY
Continuing with the food theme, why not have an evening with just dessert? This was always the ultimate dream when I was a kid, so why not break all the rules and skip the main course altogether?
This one will only work if you both have a sweet tooth!
5. BUILD A FORT AND WATCH A KID’S MOVIE
Making a fort was my favorite activity as a kid, but in my home it was only allowed on holidays and special occasions.
Doing something childish like this with your partner is so fun, and reminds you that you have a true partner in crime! Get as inventive with your fort as you want, and then make sure you allow plenty of time to fully enjoy it.
6. WATCH THE STARS
Head outside and watch the stars with blankets. But if you happen to have a kids’ paddling pool, why not set it up (without the water) and add blankets and cushions?
You can transform it into a cozy spot for star-gazing. Bring out deluxe hot chocolates (hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows) to complete the setup and keep you toasty warm.
7. HAVE AN AT-HOME QUIZ NIGHT
We love heading to the pub for a classic quiz night. Re-creating this at home can be a perfect at-home date night idea.
There is so much available online so you definitely don’t need to go to the bother of creating a quiz.

8. FIND OUT SOMETHING NEW

9. READ TOGETHER
As a self-confessed bookworm, there is nothing more relaxing than to spend time with my partner and simply read.
So find your perfect position to snuggle and get absorbed in your latest page-turner.
10. HAVE A GO AT PORTRAITS
This creative at home date night idea is a lot of fun but should never be taken seriously! Grab some sketchpads and pencils (or paint if you feel very enthusiastic) and capture each other’s likeness as best you can.
Try not to sneak a peek until the big unveiling at the end… and have a good laugh at what you’ve created!
11. HAVE A POETRY SLAM
This is a hilarious and creative date night idea for home. This can be enjoyed even if you’re abysmal at writing poetry!
Agree on a topic, set a time limit, and let the words flow.
Read out your poems to each other at the end and enjoy feeling arty!
12. GET CREATIVE WITH HOT DRINKS
I love hot drinks, and I love all the trends and ideas for new ways to make them. Brewing up a mulled wine is a romantic and creative idea for any date night at home, and you can even keep it simple with a mulled wine spice mix.
Or, why not get inventive with spiked coffees or even hot chocolates. I love the sound of Winter Wonderland from this list!

13. HAVE A MOVIE NIGHT

For a stay at home date night idea- have a bath! Pull out all the stops to make it as luxurious as possible. Have candles, awesome bath bombs, music, and anything else you can think of to enjoy this experience to the max.
15. CHOOSE A CRAFT TO MAKE TOGETHER
An incredibly creative at home date night idea is to choose a craft that you could make together in an evening. A cool idea would be to make a feature for the home, or something practical that you need. 16. HAVE A PUZZLE NIGHT
Puzzles can be addictive. The most frustrating thing, however, can be never having enough time to really get stuck in. Setting aside a date night at home for puzzles could be a very therapuetic evening, with lots of time to chat.
Make it nice with plenty of nibbles, drinks and good music.
There are plenty of beautiful puzzles available for adults.
17. HAVE A BEER AND PIZZA NIGHT
Sometimes it’s just nice to casual, and a pizza and beer night is something to look forward to all week!
If you’re feeling energetic you can make your own pizzas. Otherwise, ordering in is a great option!
18. HAVE A COCKTAIL NIGHT
Collect some amazing recipes (try Difford’s Online Guide), gather the ingredients, get your shaker, and then spend an evening creating incredible concoctions! You can get as fancy as you want with this one.
One option is to have a cocktail making competition and to score each other’s drinks. Alternatively, you could take turns making them for each other. Or what about inventing your own cocktail together? And, if you invent it, you can name it whatever you want!
19. DO WINE AND CHEESE TASTING
A wine and cheese evening is a very classy home date night idea. Wear something elegant but cute like this elegant tie knot blouse, and enjoy a romantic evening at home sampling beautiful food and drinks. Enjoy forming your opinions and don’t hold back on your critique!
20. HAVE A GAMING SESSION
Don’t be scared to get competitive with an intense gaming session. Find games that you both enjoy, and consider starting a score-chart with prizes for the winner.
21. ENJOY A PLAYLIST EVENING
Have an evening where you reminisce about your favorite music and create the ultimate playlist. Have a look at these top tips for creating playlists, and make one together that you are really proud of.
When you’re happy with it, listen the whole way through and have a drink to celebrate. You could even consider having your playlist made into a CD so you have a reminder of your fantastic date night.
22. HAVE A MUSICAL NIGHT
Pick a movie that you wouldn’t normally watch together. A classic musical can be a great choice for this. Suspend all judgement and enjoy the movie together! You might like it even more than you think.
My recommendation is Singing in the Rain– it’s a timeless movie that’s actually extremely funny!
23. HAVE A STAY AT HOME DATE NIGHT PAJAMA PARTY
Sometimes all we want to do after a hard week is put on pajamas and slob out. So why not do it properly and make it the theme of your at home date night?
Put on pajamas, get in ice-cream, make hot chocolates, and anything else that helps you to wind down and feel chilled.
You could even get a new pair of flannel pajamas for the occasion!
24. DO AN ESCAPE ROOM
Escape Rooms are so popular now and are a really great idea for a date night out and about. For the at home version, try the card game version! From The Sinister Mansion to The Catacombs of Horror, there are plenty to choose from!
25. MAKE YOUR BUCKET LIST
Spend your date night focusing on your relationship and make a bucket list. OK, so all of the ideas so far have been about enjoying each other’s company and focusing on each other.
